Football Billsboard: Gary Speed.

Posted on November 28, 2011

Gary Speed. 1969-2011. Gary Speed was found dead at his home yesterday. The tributes have been pouring in non stop ever since, and British football is in a state of shock. This is a huge shock. Gary Speed was without doubt one of the best sportsmen Wales has ever produced, and was beginning a career as manager of the national side, and a corner seemed to have been turned with some promising results recently. All of this is of little importance however, as a family is now without a husband and a father. Terribly sad news.

Ligue 1, PSG continue to falter. A 2nd straight defeat for PSG in France this weekend, as they went down 3-0 at great rivals Marseille, which leaves Montpellier 3 points clear at the top. Marseille seem to have got themselves moving finally, but it is the slip in PSG’s form that is most concerning here. Another year of failure for one of French footballs giants?

La Liga. Celtic have gone 6 points clear of Rangers in La Liga, after Rangers went down to a shock 1-0 loss to Getafe. Celtic hammered city rivals Atletico 4-1 on Saturday, and look in very ominous form. Mourinho is finally working his magic it seems, and maybe Rangers time of complete dominance is coming to an end.

Bundeswhaaaaa…? Last years first 7 games champions Mainz produced the shock result in Germany this weekend, as they beat Bayern 3-2 to leave the Munchen giants third. Mainz have been struggling this year, unable to repeat last years incredible start, but this result was fantastic for them. It leaves Dortmund joint top with surprise package Borussia Moenchengladbach, who hammered Cologne 3-0 away to follow up their 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen. A return to the glory days for BMG?

I-ran, and got banned! Yeah, I sort of stole that headline from Russia Today. 2 Iranians players have been banned for celebrating a goal in a particularly immoral way. Mohammad Nosrati got 10 months, and Sheys Rezaei 20 months, for a bum clenching celebration. Mental. Will this be the final straw that leads to NATO air strikes against the evil dictatorship that hates everyone and probably wants to kill our kids and murdered Michael Jackson and ruined our economy and hates freedom. If you don’t hate Iran then you hate freedom too. They don’t even speak English!

Don’t go to the Belgrade derby. It is SCARY. Partizan won the Belgrade derby 2-0 this weekend to go 7 points clear of Red Star at the top. Part of me wishes I was there, but then part of me would like to keep my limbs. Volim te Srbija!

Here is this weeks wonder goal. They might have gone down last year, but this is a cracker from Monaco’s relegation year.
